2019 Fiji Islands – Northern Hemisphere

We had four amazing teams volunteering in Fiji Islands from the northern hemisphere in 2019 working on various conservation and construction projects.

A special thank you to Sophie, Brady, Benji and Kelsey who have been exceptional team leaders in 2019.

Here are some of the highlights.

Korovisilou Village, Ratu Latianara College

  • Refurbishment of the Ratu Latianara district school including sanding and painting of classrooms, replacement of roofing panels, rebuilt water catchment systems, installed compost bins and rubbish burners.
  • Tutoring Mathematics and English to Grade 1 to 7 students.
  • Recycled parts from broken computers to setup working PCs for students to use.
  • Setup a literacy program and introduced the Dewey Decimal system to help sort books for the library.

Kalabu Secondary School

  • Built a two storey building block containing six classrooms.
  • Taught First Aid to Year 9 and 10 students.
  • Conducted science classes about recycling and effects of plastic pollution on the environment and bio-accumulation in marine life.
  • Taught Year 11 girls about hygiene, feminine health, nutrition and water sanitation.
