VESA’s humanitarian and conservation projects aim to provide direct action support to communities in parts of the world overlooked by traditional charities and aid organisations.
We had four amazing teams volunteering in Fiji Islands from the northern hemisphere in 2019 working on various conservation and construction projects.
A special thank you to Sophie, Brady, Benji and Kelsey who have been exceptional team leaders in 2019.
Here are some of the highlights.
Korovisilou Village, Ratu Latianara College
Refurbishment of the Ratu Latianara district school including sanding and painting of classrooms, replacement of roofing panels, rebuilt water catchment systems, installed compost bins and rubbish burners.
Tutoring Mathematics and English to Grade 1 to 7 students.
Recycled parts from broken computers to setup working PCs for students to use.
Setup a literacy program and introduced the Dewey Decimal system to help sort books for the library.
Kalabu Secondary School
Built a two storey building block containing six classrooms.
Taught First Aid to Year 9 and 10 students.
Conducted science classes about recycling and effects of plastic pollution on the environment and bio-accumulation in marine life.
Taught Year 11 girls about hygiene, feminine health, nutrition and water sanitation.
