2019 Laos – Northern Hemisphere

Southeast Asia

We had four amazing teams volunteering in Laos from the northern hemisphere in 2019 working on various conservation and construction projects.

A special thank you to Tom, Meg, Noah and Liz who have been exceptional team leaders for 2019.

Here are some of the highlights.

Elephant Conservation Centre in Sayaboury

  • Took part in the national tree planting day in Laos, meeting with the the honourable Mr Phongsawanh Sitthavong, the Governor of Sayaboury Province. Our volunteers have started the first phases of planting 5,000 trees in this effort to combat deforestation in the area.
  • Planted several hundred each of trees and bamboo stalks.

Vang Soy Village School

  • Building 3 new classrooms and a raised veranda for the school, the largest school construction project we have undertaken in Laos.
  • Taught Year 4 and 5 students how to hold conversations in English and to ask questions; introduced basic vocabulary and contextual sentences.

You can read about our efforts in more detail here.
