Project Itinerary

Amazonas Explored • 15 days

Journey with us beneath the canopy of the most remarkable jungle in the world: the Amazon. This intrepid adventure acquaints you with remote Amazonian villages, fascinating wildlife and the magnificent Andes Mountains. With your help, VESA provides villages with much needed amenities, restores school facilities and teaches English and other key skills to students.


Day 1 Arrive in Quito

Flight to Quito. You will be met at Quito International Airport by our friendly VESA staff member who will be easily recognisable in their VESA t-shirt and will be holding a sign. Please ensure that whatever your flight arrangements, you will be at the international arrivals hall at the time of the group flight arrival. We will be transported by private coach to Misahualli where you will enjoy a light meal.

Day 2 Meet the monkeys

Take a day for acclimatisation and a full briefing from our Ecuador staff on your upcoming project work and jungle trek. Enjoy a free day – meet the monkeys, get to know your fellow vteam members and hang out in the town square.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 3-7 or
Day 8-12 Project schedule

You will be split into small groups to undertake the following;

  • Construction and installation of eco-friendly bathroom/toilet blocks for families in the village community
  • Working with children in the village school teaching English and basic sanitation
  • Renovating and revitalising the school facilities with fresh coats of paint and installing

Daily Schedule:

The daily schedule will run as follows:
08.00 am – Breakfast
08:30 am – Canoe to village
09.30 am – Commence work day
12.00 pm – Lunch
01.00 pm – Continue project work
04.00 pm – End of work day
04:30 pm – Scheduled Afternoon activities – tubing, waterfalls, nature hikes etc
07:00 pm – Dinner
08:00 pm – Free time/activities

Jungle Adventure:

Accompanied by our specialist guide and biologist you will begin the jungle trek by motor canoe to the start of the first day’s hike deep into the Amazon Basin. Let our expert jungle guides show you all the plants and animals and discover what make this environment so fascinating. During your days in the jungle you will be staying in a remote jungle lodge:

  • visit the plantation of an indigenous family
  • pan for gold by the river
  • take a night canoe ride
  • see a Tribal Shaman demonstrating his traditional skills
  • enjoy fishing, swimming, campfires and hiking through some spectacular jungle.
  • visit Amazoonico animal rescue centre
  • see local crafts people at work.
  • overnight in a jungle lodge
  • experience a full day of white water rafting with a picnic lunch.

Day 13-14 Andes Adventure

You will be transported high into the Andes Mountains to cool off in the beautiful town of Bańos. Catch up on that last minute shopping, grab a massage and visit their relaxing hot springs.

  • Take a Chiva party bus up to 3600 metres to see Tungurahua’s volcanic activity
  • Go ziplining or dare try the famous tree swing at the end of the world
  • Buy some local handicrafts – perfect for gifts back home
  • Grab a massage or visit the relaxing hot springs
  • Horseback riding

Overnight transfer by bus to Quito Airport or beginning of the Road Less Travelled Ecuador tour.

Day 15 Quito and your flight home

Early morning flight departure for home.
